As an ACEP intern, you will be partnered with one of Alaska's utilities and/or an ACEP researcher for a 12-week summer assignment. You can anticipate to work with technical staff and field personnel on assignments that could include effective system management, asset deployment and integration, equipment performance analysis, and stakeholder consultation.
You will also be partnered with an ACEP team member who will help you prepare for your internship and consult with you (and your host utility) throughout the internship period. 2020 intern projects are highlighted in the news here. See the Internship Projects tab for more details.
This program is designed for junior or senior engineering, computer science, math, economics or similar students with a 3.0+ GPA who have an interest in working on energy projects to benefit Alaskan communities.
You must be able to attend (online due to coronavirus) and successfully complete a spring lecture series and a 5-day Microgrid Boot Camp in addition to the 12-week summer internship.
Lecture Series: Jan 15 - April 23, 2021 (1CR)
Microgrid Boot Camp: May 10 - 14, 2021 (1CR)
Summer Internship: May 17 - Aug 6, 2021 (12 weeks - 2CR)
The internship starts with preparatory work during the spring semester. A weekly lecture series with speakers from the utilities and ACEP are intended to prepare your for your assignment during the summer.
You will also attend a 5-day Microgrid Boot Camp in Fairbanks that focuses specifically on the resources, technologies and operations of Alaska’s wide range of microgrid energy systems.
